We were created as vessels of mercy. A vessel is a container and is different from an instrument. Whereas an instrument is useful for doing things, the function of a vessel is to contain something. As vessels we are containers, but what should we contain? Seven-Up and Coca-Cola bottles are vessels made to contain their respective drinks. We are vessels purposely created by God to contain God Himself in Christ.
Because of this, if we do not have God within us as our content, we will continually sense the emptiness of our human life. If a glove does not contain a hand, it is empty and thus is meaningless and useless. Regardless of how rich a person is, how much education he has, or how successful he is, he will always sense the emptiness of human life. But when a person opens his heart, confesses his sins, and receives Christ into him, he is satisfied. He receives something living, satisfying, and refreshing into him; that is, he receives God Himself in Christ as his content.
Reflect:
Have you ever had thoughts about what is the purpose of life?
Prayer:
“Lord, make me a vessel of mercy! I am open and willing to be a part of Your purpose.”
